After this recent trip to Macao, I realized that have I have visited and jumped in front of 4 Eiffel Towers including the official Eiffel Tower in Paris.
The Parisian Hotel, Macao
This tower resides on the Cotai Strip at the Parisian Hotel. It is about 1/2 the size of the original. After a few overcast days, we made our way to the top with no lines or waiting which was spectacular. The view of Macao and the surrounding hotels was pretty great too. At night the tower is covered in colourful LED’s.
Fake Paris near Hangzhou China
Outside of Hangzhou China, there is a town that is based on Paris. With buildings that give the impression of Paris until you get close up and see that you are actually in China. The atmosphere was a little strange around the tower. The town felt desolate and ominously quiet. The tower itself is surrounded by gardens and is much taller than the Macao or Las Vegas Tower. When we visited the subway was just being finished so I’m assuming this planned community may be a little busier now that there is better transportation to the suburb.
We take this tower for granted after many visits to Las Vegas. It is still pretty to see. We have been up this tower once and only once and it happens to be the time that I asked Brad if he wanted to get married. It wasn’t a “get down on your knee” type of proposal, I didn’t feel comfortable at that time surrounded by American tourists. I also didn’t have a ring but it was planned and I made sure only two of us went up the tower so we could be alone.
I have been to Paris twice, the first time was our two year dating anniversary in 2005 and it was in November. It was cold and was actually snowing a bit. We did go up to the top of the tower to take in the view. If my memory serves me, we thankfully didn’t have to wait too long to go up. The size of this true Eiffel Tower makes the tower quite magnificent and awe inspiring. This picture was not taken on that trip, this was taken many years later when we went to visit Karen when she was living in Paris. I didn't start jumping in the photos until 2012.
